CPA's in a marketing meeting

Past Initiatives

CPAs face unnecessary burdens and requirement that do not contribute to protecting the public interest:

How do we make practice across state lines accessible and seamless?

A large membership gives us the legislative clout to be effective on Beacon Hill:

How do we increase membership?

The numbers are down for candidates taking the CPA exam:

How can we increase the number of candidates sitting for and passing the exam?

As a result of the Society’s outreach efforts the regulations for sitting for the CPA were changed; the regulations that allow a candidate to sit for the exam with 120 educational credits went into effect on January 1, 2007. This is no longer one of the Society’s main initiatives, however we will continue to encourage candidates to sit for the exam.

What will the profession be in ten years?

How will we practice and how must the Society evolve in order to serve the profession?

What issues are facing the CPA profession?

The MSCPA Board of Directors is working on "Strategic Initiatives" which we hope will enrich both the accounting profession and the Society. These initiatives are comprised of goals, plans to achieve these goals, and ways in which we can measure results. It was difficult narrowing them down to just five, but I believe that we have grasped the top issues facing you as a CPA, a business owner, a manager, or an employee.

Many CPAs are leaving the profession

How can we retain CPAs in Public Accounting?

Which issues should the Society address? How should the Society educate its members on these?

A growing segment of the profession is no longer in public accounting:

How do we better serve CPAs in Business, Government, NPOs and Education?

The Society needs the young professionals to become the leadership of tomorrow:

How do we involve young CPAs in the Society?

Board members and Society staff are working to address these goals, and we value your input. If you have any suggestions or comments about our Strategic Initiatives, or if you would like to be involved, please feel free to contact the staff liaisons or Ted Flynn, president & CEO, tjflynn@MSCPAonline.org; 800.392.6145.
