Do My Legislators Want to Know What I Think? Yes! Yes! Yes!
There are approximately 10,000 bills filed each year in Massachusetts and state legislators cannot be knowledgeable about each of them.
Your Senator and Representative are elected to represent you, and need to hear your views on upcoming legislation.

Contact your State Legislators
There are many ways to keep in touch. A quick phone call helps, but for more complex issues, a well-thought-out letter makes the difference.
Use the following recommendations when composing a letter to your State Legislators:
- Letters to your elected officials should appear as though they are spontaneous. They should not appear as though they are a plea from the MSCPA!
- Your purpose for writing should be stated in the first paragraph. Refer to the bill number and bill title. State your position — oppose/support.
- Be courteous!
- Address only one issue per letter, and ask for a response!
- And, use the following format when addressing correspondence:
To a Senator:
The Honorable (Full Name)
The State House, Room (Number)
Boston, Massachusetts 02133
Dear Senator (Last Name):
To a Representative:
The Honorable (Full Name)
The State House, Room (Number)
Boston, Massachusetts 02133
Dear Representative(Last Name):
When writing to the Senate President or Speaker of the House of Representatives it is proper to address them as Dear Mr. President or Dear Mr. Speaker. Also if they are Chair of a Committee it is proper to address them as Mr. Chairman or Madam Chairwoman.
