Go Beyond

Mark Koziel, CPA, CGMA, AICPA

The accounting profession landscape continues to change, expand and adapt to new circumstances. This change does not restrict itself to public accounting, business and industry, government or any one element of the profession. Technology, government regulation, new success skills and disruptive businesses are just a few examples of the changes the profession faces on a daily basis. This session will cover hot topics of technology and opportunities on the horizon, as well as update attendees on Association of International Certified Professional Accountants’ initiatives to keep the accounting profession on the forefront of this wave of disruption.

9:45 - 11:00 a.m.

Feedback: Give it, Get it, Use it

Kristen Rampe, CPA

In a perfect world, giving and receiving performance feedback would be easy. We’d be candid and caring, accurate and forward-looking, understanding and adapting. Our emotions get in the way, and we feel uncomfortable with difficult messages. Our feedback loops often look more like five years of unreconciled bank statements than they do a polished set of financials. We’ll discuss ways to deliver effective feedback to team members, and as leaders, how to tap into your team’s feedback for you.

Who’s Inside My Head?

Brianna Johnson, ConvergenceCoaching, LLC

Aren’t we supposed to be our own biggest champions? If so, then why are always getting in our way? Sometimes, we let fear and pessimism hold us back. The voice in our own heads can either lead us to greatness or keep us from reaching our full potential. In this session, we’ll explore:

  • The role of “the little voice” and how its ongoing presence impacts our daily lives;
  • Choosing to be either powerless or powerful – and how the choice you make is crucial to the outcomes you produce; and
  • Simple ideas for shifting your inner dialogue from limiting to empowering.

2:00 – 2:15 p.m.

Concurrent Sessions (choose one)

A.) Developing a Culture of Ownership and Accountability

Brianna Johnson, ConvergenceCoaching, LLC

In this course we will explore the foundational leadership attributes that, when applied, will transform your practice. Learn how accountability, integrity and ownership applied together can dramatically increase the functionality, effectiveness and motivation of your team. In this session, you will:

  • Explore the two foundations of accountability – integrity and ownership;
  • Gain a method for taking ownership of your clients, projects and initiatives;
  • Learn the fundamentals of delegation and meeting facilitation so you’re assigning ownership to others; and
  • Discuss different strategies that lead to accountability.

B.) Freedom to Fail

Kristen Rampe, CPA

Would you believe that some CPAs feel that if they make mistakes, it will be held against them? You probably do. Have you considered what effect that has on the functioning of your team and your organization as a whole? In this session, we will explore the concept of failure and the research behind the traits that contribute to the highest levels of team effectiveness. Walk away with ideas on how you can measure and create an environment that fosters peak team performance and healthy communication.

3:40 – 4:40 p.m.

Idea Exchanges

This peer-to-peer idea exchange is an opportunity for our attendees to network, learn and share information on a variety of topics. Our moderators will ask questions to enhance the conversation and spark a dialogue with the group.
