The Conway School is an accredited graduate program in ecological landscape planning and design. We are looking for a volunteer with financial expertise to serve on the school's Finance Committee. Conway's mission is to explore, develop, practice, and teach design of the land that is ecologically and socially sustainable. The 10-month curriculum is built around real projects for real clients. Students learn from faculty, from each other, from guest professionals in many fields, and from explorations of their project sites and the communities where those projects are located. The environment is personal, collaborative, and rigorous. A 13-member board of trustees oversees the school. The board has six standing committees, one of which is Finance. The Finance Committee recommends financial policies, goals, and budgets that support Conway's mission, values, and strategic goals. The committee also reviews the school's financial performance against its goals and proposes major transactions and programs to the board. Specific responsibilities include:1) working with staff to develop an operating budget; 2) setting long-term financial goals; 3) ensuring adherence to the budget and achievement of the adopted goals by monitoring the school's financial activity; 4) monitoring and communicating to the board about Conway’s overall financial health; 5) implementing safeguards to protect the school's assets. Ideal volunteers have effective interpersonal and communication skills as well as a passion for the Conway's mission. Experience with nonprofit boards is preferred but not required.
