CEO CORNER

Dear Hannah,

Now that folks are diving into federal tax reform and understanding it better, issues are starting to arise about the implications for state taxes. As you all know, Massachusetts syncs to the 2005 IRC for individuals and conforms to the IRC for corporations (for the most part).

The MSCPA had two opportunities last week to influence decision-makers on this issue. On Tuesday, we testified at the revenue committee hearing along with other business leaders and thought leaders. And yesterday, we participated in a panel at the Department of Revenue (DOR) on the topic.
You can read a copy of the testimony we gave here.

The point of our message is there are many issues raised in the international world, and attention to those issues is urgent because they are effective immediately. We also stressed that the Legislature will need to step in and clarify where the DOR struggles to provide guidance. This will be a long process, and I’m very proud that the MSCPA has a seat at the table when these important decisions are made.

Have a great weekend!
